Continuous  vacuum  kiln

 
-Internal  dimensions :  13,50 m  long
2,50 m  wide  and 2,20 m  high ( the  same
size  as  a  trailer) Largest continuous
vacuum kiln in  the world  when installed  in 1998.

-This  kiln  was  specially  built  for  GOUTTESOLARD BOIS  by  W.D.E.
( Wood Drying  Engineering).

- W.D.E.  is  situated  at  Terni,  150 km north  of  Rome, Italy.

- GOUTTESOLARD  BOIS  and  W.D.E.  jointly  designed  the  special
features  of  this  kiln.

- The airtight  kiln  is  clad  in  stainless  steel,  has  2 km  of weld  and  took  3  months  to build. external size  4,0 x 4,0 x 18,0 m

Drying  process :

- After  loading,  the  internal  pressure  is  reduced  to  100 millibars  ( atmospheric  pressure  is 1000 mb). At  this pressure,  water  will  boil  at  40  degrees centigrade.  The  kiln  is  heated to  well  above this  temperature. The  extraction  of  water,  in  the  form  of vapour,  is  quick  and  efficient.

- The  speed  of  drying  is  adjusted  by  varying  the  vacuum
relative  to  temperature  and  is
automatically  computer-controlled.
